Sandakan, Saturday. Thirty two Isuzu D-Max owners proved once again the fuel efficiency prowess of their vehicles when they participated in the Isuzu Dura-Miles Challenge held here today.

The fuel efficiency competition organized by Isuzu Malaysia was to showcase the amazing ability of the award-winning Isuzu D-Max and to uncover Sandakan’s most efficient driver. CEO of Isuzu Malaysia Takashi Hata and Managing Director of Wee Maju Motor Wee Kok Yiun flagged off the event from the Wee Maju Isuzu 3S Centre.

The competitors then drove along an 80km route from the Isuzu outlet at Mile 7 ½ Labuk Road under strict observation by officials of the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) and ended at a Petronas station where the cars were refueled and the amount of fuel recorded to determine the winners of both the 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre categories of the competition.

The winners in each category took home RM5,000.00, a trophy and certificate while the runners-up and third-placed winners won RM3,000.00 and RM1,000.00 respectively. All winners also took home a set of four Goodyear tyres each.

As part of the rules of the competition, the cars had to be of standard specification with no modifications allowed. All the cars were inspected by officials prior to the competition and all possible refueling points including the engine bay, fuel lines and fuel filler were sealed by the AAM officers.

According to CEO of Isuzu Malaysia, the Dura-Miles Challenge is aimed at creating a strong awareness of the fuel efficiency capability of the Isuzu D-Max through healthy competition among owners.

“The fuel efficiency of the Isuzu D-Max is second to none in the pick-up category. Through competitions such as this Dura-Miles Challenge, we hope that customers and prospective customers will be able to discover and enjoy the exceptional distances they can cover with their D-Max using very little fuel,” said Hata.

The Isuzu D-Max has long been the undisputed champion for exceptional fuel efficiency. It proved itself when two units were driven from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, a distance of 1,501km without needing to stop for fuel. It is no surprise then that the D-Max was also awarded the Asian Auto Fuel Efficiency Award for the most fuel efficient pick-up truck in Malaysia for two consecutive years.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr Hata congratulated all the participants for having chosen the D-Max and for their participation in the event.

“I wish to thank all participants in today’s Dura-Miles Challenge. You have proven to yourself and to others the fuel efficient nature of your vehicle. I believe that all of you are already winners by using your Isuzu D-Max everyday because the more you drive Malaysia’s most fuel efficient pick-up truck, the more you save,” said Hata.
